Joule Sous Vide Description

The Joule Sous Vide is an 11-inch tall machine that weighs only 1.3 Lb, making it the smallest precision cooker to slip into a drawer easily. Its water heating capacity (98-degree Celsius) is a lot faster, just requires a couple of minutes to heat the water to perfect temperature and prepare mouth-watering meals with great precision (0.1-degree Celsius) as it holds the water temperature accurately for the desired ingredients.

The Joule Sous Vide Circulator comes in very handy and can fit in smaller pots, thus eliminating the need to have larger containers for cooking food.

This versatile cooker allows the chiefs to view and control the cooking process from anywhere through a groundbreaking app. However, this aspect is not liked by many people since you can only control it through its app so there won’t be any display screen or buttons on the Joule. Also, the users will need electricity and an internet connection to operate this circulator.

Joule Vs Anova | Structure & Design

The Beautiful Joule is well manufactured with lots of high-tech in a sleek and compact body, distinguishing it from other bulky immersion circulators. It’s hard to believe but Breville put a lot of power and specs in this small Joule.

Compared to Anova (12.8” height and 1.8 Lbs weight) which is a similar precision cooker, Joule is quite smaller (11”) and less heavy (1.3 Lbs) but this is not an issue for smaller containers. The major concern for sous vide is minimum and maximum water depths. In this case, Joule is the best fit as it works perfectly for both shallow and deep water baths. However, if the water is below its circular, cooking gets noisier and water splashes which is a downside. You would need to add more water to keep it quiet.

Unlike Anova which has a screw to tighten it up on the edge of the container, Joule has a magnetic base to stick and stand tall in a metallic pot as well as a side clip to be hung safely on the edge of a plastic container.

The build quality of both of these sous vide cookers is the same. The Anova is a decent blend of hard plastic and stainless steel but Joule has a body much like Apple’s products; sleek and stylish, giving a very kitchen-friendly look. Breville Sous Vide Joule is made of stainless steel and seamless plastic housing the length, enhancing its durability with water-resistant and anti-corrosion properties.

The other major difference between the designs of these immersion circulators is their user interface. The ANOVA has a fully touch control screen that allows you to set the cooking time and temperature manually. Whereas Joule has a top button that is used to set and reset the device or in other words it syns the sous vide with Joule App on pressing the button. Its temperature and time can be set by using the mobile app.

Joule Sous Vide Features

Breville Proved with it’s smallest hi-tech product – Joule, that they are masters of sous vide. The Joule by Breville is fully packed with tons of great features including voice control by Alexa, app alerts, and visual doneness. The Features you see in Joule won’t be found in any other immersion circulator.

Water Circulator

The powerful Joule’s circulator is ideal to prepare meals for big parties. It can effectively heat up the water up to 40 liters (10.5 gallons). Plus, this precision cooker comes in handy when you want to cook smaller meals at home with perfect water temperatures. The Circulator works perfectly in shallower water as low as 1.5 inches, which is the lowest depth compared to all other sous vide cookers. Most of such devices have a depth range of 3-4 inches, but how did Breville make it?

Well, Joule is designed in a way that it sucks the water from the base and withdraws it through the front hole after heating it up. If you have a low water level, then you can clearly see how it works. The problem with cooking in shallower water is that it adds to unwanted noise in the kitchen.

User Experience

The Joule has a far superior user interaction than any other sous vide circulator including Anova. Paring the Anova with a smart device is a very frustrating experience that ends up taking many days with back and forth convo with suppliers. Also, the pairing of Anova requires a 4 digit number shown on the screen, freshly booted up the unit, disables power-saving modes, high-speed Internet, and a lot of time and tries. While on Joule’s side it is extremely simple and easy, It automatically pairs up with the mobile on first booting up of Joule App which is just a matter of a few minutes.

The Anova mobile app contains a bunch of food recipes but requires a lot of searching and googling to manually set the process up. Whereas, the Joule app is pretty easy and quiet to set up everything instantly.

Voice Command

Joule works on your voice commands and can even get along with smart home devices like Alexa and work on its command. It’s awesome to have sous vide machine that works with Alexa. You just need to open your Alexa app and enable the skill with Joule. Once enabled, you can ask Alexa to ask the Joule to maintain a water bath at 80 degrees Celsius without any concern of overheating. After the job gets done, ask Alexa to stop the Joule, and it will get stopped right away on command.

Bluetooth & WiFi Connectivity

Who doesn’t want a hi-tech device that can be controlled by their smartphones? In this case, Breville Joule didn’t lack behind to impress us. It has compatibility for both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, giving you the choice to select whatever suits you or when having no internet, you can simply operate it by pairing using Bluetooth, Amazing right?

This smart feature lets you start preparing dinner even before leaving for home. Just open the Joule app and set the cooking requirements and on reaching home you would be served with scrumptious meals ready to be served.

Joule Mobile App

Now control everything from anywhere with just a single click on the Joule app is the best kitchen tool app on google store. You won’t need to physically go closer to the machine to set up the time and temperature for a water bath.

This Breville Joule’s controlling app is packed with tons of amazing recipes with step by step processes to prepare finger-licking good meals. It keeps you updated with your cooking status and eliminates the chances of overcooking or undercooking food. The app shows exactly how the food looks even before doneness and consists of over 100 guides for new home chefs. Additionally, it stores your cooking history for next time.

When the app connects with Joule, it gets indicated by blue light. The most interesting thing about the Joule app is that it shows in recipes the varied cooked food at their respective temperatures and lets you customize your meal cooking with desired tenderness. It also asks, if the ingredients are frozen or fresh and even the thickness of the meat to cook accurately.

Joule Performance

The overall performance of the Joule Sous Vide machine is much better than Anova, It heats up the water within 13 minutes while Anova takes 15 minutes. Since the Joule cooker has a higher power of 1100W than the Anova (1000W), It can reach a temperature of 98 degree Celsius while Anova can only get to 92 degree Celsius and Joule can work with 40 Liters much greater than Anova that can only heat 32 Liters of water. The only similar spec in both of these immersion circulators is +/- 0.1 degree Celsius precision.
